An Artful Journey:  Exploring Great Art Exhibitions with Art Historian Julianna Caro at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, Fridays from 10:30-noon.

This fall we will explore 3 new topics:

September 5: Van Gogh and Cezanne in the South of France

Learn about how these Post Impressionist masters were inspired by the landscape and people in places like Arles, Saint-Rémy, and Aix on Provence.

October 3: The Ruth Asawa Retrospective at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Discover an incredible artist who had her start at Black Mountain College and went on to be a major artist both as a sculptor and an art educator in San Franciso. We will explore this retrospective exhibition, which covers the full range of Asawa’s work and its inspirations over six decades of her career.

November 22: Fra Angelico at The Strozzi Palace, Florence, Italy

On the occasion of the blockbuster exhibition, Angelico, which traces the career of this influential Renaissance artist in relation to his contemporaries, we will explore the major places to see and understand the transcendent art of Fra Angelico in and around the magical city of Florence.

Each Artful Journey program begins with coffee, tea, and pastries followed by an inspiring lecture and discussion with art historian and curator Julianna Caro. We will enjoy time to connect with each other and be curious about past and present art and artists. $25 per lecture, refreshments included

The Club: Where American Women Artists Found Refuge in Belle Époque Paris

in conversation with Asheville Art Museum's Julie Levin Caro.

The event is free but registration is required to reserve your seat. 
 

Jennifer Dasal is the creator and host of the ArtCurious podcast, which has been featured in multiple local and national publications and websites, including O, the Oprah Magazine, PC Magazine, ArtDaily, NPR, Salon and more. She is also the author of ArtCurious: Stories of the Unexpected, Slightly Odd, and Strangely Wonderful in Art History. She holds an MA in art history from the University of Notre Dame and a BA in art history from the University of California, Davis. Dasal is the former curator of modern and contemporary art at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, where she worked for thirteen years. She lectures frequently on art both locally and nationally. Dasal lives in North Carolina with her family.

Julie Levin Caro is an art historian, museum educator, and curator. Formerly Professor of Art History and Chair of the Art Department at Warren Wilson College, she is currently Head of Learning and Engagement at the Asheville Art Museum. With her company, The Artisan Tour by Julianna, she leads week-long excursions to Italy and local art and food tours in Asheville and Black Mountain.

Exploring Great Art Exhibitions with Art Historian Julianna Caro

The Artful Journey lecture series with Julianna continues! After an exciting fall looking at art  exhibitions on Impressionism, the Harlem Renaissance, John Singer Sargent, and the  Venice Biennale, this winter Julianna will explore three new topics:

Fridays 10:30am - 12pm

February 14th: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now

March 14th: Leap Before You Look: A History of Black Mountain College.

Each Artful Journey will begin with coffee, tea, and pastries followed by an inspiring lecture and discussion with art historian and curator Julianna Caro. We will enjoy time to connect with each other and be curious about past and present art and artists.

January 17th: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now
